Who designed the Makai Course?
The Makai Course was designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. and is his first solo design. It was extensively renovated by Mr. Jones in a $6 million project completed in early 2010, which combined the original Ocean and Lakes nines into a single 18-hole championship course.

How do I book a tee time at Princeville Makai?

How far in advance can I book a tee time?
Visitors can typically book up to 60 days in advance. Kamaʻaina booking is available by calling 808.826.1863: tee times before 10:00 AM can be booked 48 hours in advance, and tee times after 10:00 AM can be booked 7 days in advance.
What are the golf course hours?
The Makai Course is open daily from 7:00AM to 5:00 PM, with the first tee time at 8:05AM. Hours may change during annual course aeration.
What happens if it rains?
Rain checks are issued only if the course is closed or deemed unplayable by management. North Shore weather can change quickly, so we recommend checking with the golf shop at 808.826.1912 if conditions look uncertain.
Do you pair single golfers or small groups with other players?
Yes, we do pair up golfers.

How much does it cost to play Princeville Makai?
The standard 18-hole rack rate at Princeville Makai is $375, which includes a golf cart, GPS, and driving range use before your round. Lower best available rates are offered daily on our online booking engine, and 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay guests may be eligible for a discounted resort rate through the concierge.
Is a golf cart included in the green fee?
Yes. The 18-hole rack rate includes a golf cart with GPS.
Do you offer a kamaʻaina (Hawaii resident) rate?
Yes. Kamaʻaina rates are available by booking over the phone at 808.826.1863. Tee times before 10:00 AM can be booked 48 hours in advance, and tee times after 10:00 AM can be booked 7 days in advance.
What is the Albatross Pass?
The Princeville Makai Albatross Pass includes 3 rounds of golf for $725 plus tax (about $241 per round). It is designed for golfers who play often or are on the island for an extended stay. The pass is valid for 14 days from purchase and is non-transferable.
Are there junior or family rates?
Yes. Juniors ages 6–12 play free with a paying adult after 10:00 AM. Juniors ages 13–17 accompanied by an adult play at 50% of the adult rate all day. A junior who plays without an adult pays the full rate.

How long is the Makai Course and what is the par?
The Makai Course is a par-72, 18-hole championship course. From the back tees (ʻAina) it plays 7,223 yards with a course rating of 75.4 and a slope of 134.
What tee boxes are available?
Six sets of tees are available: ʻAina (7,223 yards, slope 134), Koa (6,535 yards, slope 129), Kai (6,522 yards, slope 127), Ahi (6,155 yards, slope 123), Lani (5,534 yards, slope 117), and Kaʻupu (4,978 yards, slope 117). This lets golfers of all abilities choose a comfortable challenge.
How difficult is the Makai Course?
The Makai Course is a championship layout, but its multiple tee options make it enjoyable for both low-handicap players and casual golfers. Ocean breezes and elevated coastal holes are part of the challenge, so many guests choose a forward tee for a more relaxed round.
How many holes have ocean views?
Six holes run along the ocean, and many others offer views of the Pacific and the Hanalei Mountains.
Do you have a driving range and practice facilities?
Yes. Driving range use before your round is included with the 18-hole rack rate.
How long does a round take?
Typical pace of play is about 4.5 hours.
Is the course ever closed?

Equipment, Attire & Instruction
Do you have rental clubs?
Yes. Princeville Makai offers premium Callaway rental sets (Rogue ST woods and irons with an Odyssey putter) in men’s and ladies’ right- and left-handed options. Rental is $85 plus tax for 18 holes, or $49 for 9 holes, and the 18-hole rental includes 6 Makai logo Callaway golf balls.
What is the dress code?

Sunset Golf Cart Tour
What is the Sunset Golf Car Tour?
The Sunset Golf Car Tour is a guided, two-hour golf car tour of the Makai Course, its flora and fauna, and the cultural history of Kauaʻi’s North Shore. The tour ends at the signature par-3 seventh hole to watch the sunset over the Pacific. It was named “Best New Amenity for a Public/Resort Course” by Golf Inc. magazine in 2019.
How much does the Sunset Tour cost?
The tour is $130 per golf cart, including tax, with two people per cart.
When is the Sunset Tour offered and how do I reserve it?
The tour runs Monday through Friday and reservations are required. Call 808.826.1863 or book online at makaigolf.com. Tours are limited to 12 carts per night. Check in at the golf shop 2½ hours before sunset; start times shift by month, from about 4:15 PM in winter to 5:15 PM in summer.
Is the Sunset Tour suitable for children?
Yes. The tour is open to guests ages 6 and older. Guests with a driver’s license can drive the cart. Outside food and beverages are not permitted, but food and drinks are available at the Makai Grill before the tour.

Is there a restaurant at Princeville Makai?
Yes. The Makai Grill offers entrees, pupus, and a full bar in an open-air setting. Favorites include the grass-finished local burger, coconut shrimp, and the signature “Makai Tai,” a slightly less sweet take on the classic Mai Tai. Menus are available on the Makai Grill page at makaigolf.com.
Can I bring my own food and drinks on the course?

What else is there to do at Princeville Makai besides golf?
Beyond golf, Princeville Makai offers the Sunset Golf Car Tour, pickleball and tennis, sunrise yoga, a pool and fitness center, the Makai Music & Art Festival, and wedding and event venues.
Do you have a disc golf course?
No.
Can the public play pickleball and tennis?
Yes. The courts are open to members and the general public, with up to six pickleball courts and three tennis courts. Court rentals are $25 per hour (reservations required, 808.826.1863), and pickleball drop-in is $15 per player with no reservation needed. Drop-in sessions run on set days, including beginner-only sessions at 9 AM on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and 3.5–4.0+ sessions at 3 PM most days.
Can I host a wedding or event at Princeville Makai?
